Frequently Asked Questions

What is a fortune telling teacup?

A fortune telling teacup is a specially designed teacup with symbols printed inside that guide tea leaf readings. After drinking your tea, the leaves left in the cup settle against these symbols to form a personalised reading. Tea Leaf Reader teacups feature original Tasseography symbols created and trademarked by Karin Dalton-Smith, a professional tea leaf reader based in Melbourne, Australia.

How do I use a fortune telling teacup?

Brew loose-leaf tea using your preferred blend. Drink the tea, leaving a small amount of liquid and leaves in the cup. Swirl the cup three times clockwise, tip it upside down onto the saucer for 30 seconds to drain, then turn it right-side up. Read the symbols formed by the leaves against the printed symbols inside the cup. Every set includes a symbols guidebook and a QR code to access a free online video course, taught by Karin herself.

Do I need to be psychic to read tea leaves?

No psychic ability is required. Tea leaf reading is a learned skill based on a structured system of symbols. Karin has taught thousands of students, from complete beginners to professional spiritual practitioners. The free online course included with every cup walks you through the process step by step.

Are the teacups dishwasher or microwave safe?

Most cups with gold accents are hand wash only. The gold detailing is applied by hand and must be treated carefully to preserve quality. The Clay Red Pottery Style cup is an exception and is both microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe due to its lack of metallic finishes. Care instructions are included with each product.

What are the teacups made of?

Teacups in the range are made from Porcelain or New Bone China. Unlike traditional Bone China, New Bone China uses calcium oxide instead of animal bone ash, making every cup vegan-friendly. No animal products are used in any Tea Leaf Reader teacup.

What is included in each teacup set?

Every teacup set includes the teacup and matching saucer, an elegant teaspoon, a symbols guidebook, tea blend samplers curated for readings, and a QR code to access a free online video course valued at $110 AUD, taught by Karin Dalton-Smith.

Where are the teacups designed and made?

All designs are created in-house by Karin Dalton-Smith in her studio in Berwick, Victoria, Australia. No outsourcing is used. Tea Leaf Reader holds an internationally registered trademark for the Fortune Teller Teacup range, and Karin won two CARTA international design awards in 2019 for her Steampunk Tea Leaf Reading Cards.

Is it worth the investment?

Each teacup is handmade to order and bundled with a free video course that would otherwise be sold separately. You are not just buying a teacup, you are buying a complete, trademarked reading system designed by a professional tea leaf reader with over a decade of experience.
